Benefits Of A Concrete Patio

10/27/2020

Adding a patio to your house is a real opportunity. You may love reading a book outside afternoons or provide a fresh space for entertainment. There are several approaches to create a patio, including gravel, wood, or paving stones. That said, one material that you may want to consider  is concrete. A concrete patio may have some big advantages, but let's break down the benefits.
• A concrete patio is low cost to maintain
Like every busy homeowner recognizes, anything that can save you time and headaches is a great thing. There is very little maintenance required for concrete patios. In terms of upkeep, you have to use a decent sealant frequently and brush it off or rinse it when it starts to get dusty. A concrete patio is a breeze relative to other types of flooring and outdoor materials.

• A concrete patio is versatile
Concrete is unbelievably versatile relative to other construction products. This helps you to construct a patio quickly, find the right paint choices to suit your style and even imitate wood grain or stone using the right stamping technologies. Both of these are perfect ways to offer a concrete patio style additional dimension and flare.

• A concrete patio is affordable
Extravagant patios of stone or wood will look fantastic, but they will also have a higher expense and more frequent maintenance. There are often labour-intensive materials that are costly. A concrete patio does not lack comfort but is usually much more economical than other alternatives. As long as you hire an experienced contractor, you won't have to worry about any problems with installation.

• A concrete patio is easy to install
If you want a patio built promptly, concrete is the perfect option. Your installer would be able to do the job in a couple of days, which guarantees less interruption to your normal routine.

• A concrete patio is sustainable
The method of concrete construction includes putting the material on the steel bar in one piece to create a solid foundation and a long-lasting surface. A concrete patio may also be mixed to fit the environmental conditions of your area to improve its resilience against poor weather and temperature shifts.

Using concrete for your backyard walkways results in permanent, low maintenance addition that will boost the esthetic attractiveness of your home and provide a secure and flat area for people to walk so they don’t have to stomp through mud on rainy days.  You can choose between concrete slabs and concrete or stone pavers.
  • Retaining walls . These are widely utilized for aesthetic appeal and structural stability in many landscape designs. Remove hilly areas of your backyard will make it simpler to mow your lawn and provide more room for your enjoyment. These walls are mostly constructed of concrete blocks, so you can select a specific design and build a matching patio.  Many people also add a bench to their retaining walls so that additional seating is available that blends in with the landscape design.
  • Patios  Most people love to chat, sit with friends and to eat in a comfortable backyard. Concrete patios are ideal for your backyard because they allow for so many options. The pattern may be stained or stamped to make decorative patterns or textures. Plus, you can add additional features such as a  fire pit.
  • Fountain or Water Feature Concrete is a perfect material for water features because they are both long-lasting and weatherproof. Birdbaths are common in the backyard because they are straightforward to manage.  Another common water feature is a backyard fountain.  The sound of the water can add to outdoor relaxation and aesthetically speaking, a fountain can add a nice accent to any patio or yard.
  • Decorative Wall  Some people opt for concrete or masonry walls to add an element of style or to enhance the level of privacy of their yard.  Some can be very elaborate and can include gardening beds as well.

Stamped Concrete Vs. Patio Pavers

As a homeowner, you take pleasure in every square foot of your property. Everything you do to modernize and update your home is an investment. And with so many different options for updating your landscaping and other outdoor areas, it can be a bit difficult to decide on just the right materials to fit your needs and design ideas. Oahu home owners seeking to build an outdoor space that is inviting and fits in with their design vision, often turn to decorative concrete solutions.

One of the questions we get asked a lot by our clients is, What is the difference between stamped concrete and patio pavers?
Designs
Stamped concrete comes in a range of textures and colors. From granite to marble and even worn wood, this type of concrete finish is versatile enough to complement any project's look and feel.

You can replicate old world stone styles like cobblestone and other natural stone styles or more modern styles that tend to be more minimalistic and sleek.

Installation
The installation of stamped concrete is best left to professionals who have the experience, tools and molds. The correct combination of cement and water is vital to execute correctly when installing stamped concrete. This ensures a finished product that cures correctly and does not leak or crack prematurely. For bricks, an expert guarantees that the surface is compacted correctly until the bricks are put in place.

Stamped concrete has a resistance against weathering and foreign contaminants such as pool chemicals and is resistant to fading.

Durability and Sustainability
In respect to durability, patio pavers stand out. Some pre-cast pavers are about three times thicker than concrete, making them ideal for high traffic areas.   Patio pavers need little more than occasionally brushing and retain their color while they mature.

Depending on the size of the slab, stamped concrete may not be an appropriate option for areas that will be subject to a lot of weight, such as driveways. That is why most builders propose pre-cast Patio pavers for driveways over stamped concrete because vehicle weights may crack or split the stamped concrete over time.

The repair and replacement
Repairing stamped concrete may be a bit  more complicated to repair if there is a big crack or hole than a plain concrete slab.  Because of the stamped design, it will be important to hire a contractor that can recreate the stamped concrete design when patching the affected area.

For pavers, the repair can be as easy as removing the blocks in question and replacing  them with new blocks if one of your patio pavers breaks or if it gets stained and can not be washed. If you only have to fix one or two pavers, you might consider doing this yourself.

In terms of safety
Proper installation of pavers and concrete is a important when it comes to the long term safety of both of these building materials.  Although, normal wear and tear is expected, more should be considered during the installation process to ensure that there is not a safety hazard.

For example stamped concrete may become slippery when it is wet. So this is something to consider when planning any concrete project.
